EcoPower Re-Refined Motor Oil and Roush Fenway Racing Add Horsepower to Environmental Protection and Sustainability

Richardson, TX – Protecting and sustaining engine horsepower and the environment are key priorities for both EcoPower and Roush Fenway Racing.  As the team’s official oil partner, EcoPower Re-Refined Motor Oil, produced by Safety-Kleen, will be used in the No. 17 EcoPower Ford Fusion, driven by Ricky Stenhouse Jr., this Sunday, June 22 at Sonoma Raceway.

“Our re-refined oil has been proven to protect engines and protect the environment,” said Curt Knapp, Safety-Kleen executive vice president, marketing.  “Some of the largest fleets in North America, including the U.S. Military, and thousands of consumers have learned to rely on EcoPower to protect their valuable investments.  We can’t think of a stronger, more authentic endorsement for re-refined oil than Jack Roush using it in his race cars to achieve peak protection and performance.”

While Roush Fenway Racing has a historic track record of building championship-caliber race teams, it has also demonstrated leadership and innovation in the area of environmental sustainability.  In fact, team initiatives including the ability to recycle 96 percent of every race car, and becoming the first organization in NASCAR to install facility solar panels to collect alternative energy have led to Roush Fenway receiving multiple environmental sustainability awards.

“The success we have enjoyed at Roush Fenway while running re-refined oil in our race cars shows that we can ‘close the loop’ by recycling resources already available to us, while maintaining the horsepower and performance we demand from our engines,” said team owner Jack Roush.  “We are committed to promoting environmental responsibility throughout our organization.”

EcoPower re-refined oil helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 80%. For every million gallons of EcoPower used it avoids more than 7,600 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions – equal to carbons absorbed by more than 195,000 trees for 10 years in an urban environment.

And it requires up to 85% less energy to produce than oil made from virgin crude, because it has already been refined. It also helps reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil.

“My dad taught me about engine building and the importance of motor oil when I was very young,” said Ricky Stenhouse Jr., driver of the No. 17 EcoPower Ford Fusion. “Knowing that re-refined oil can deliver protection, reliability and performance while it is also protecting the environment is important to me.”

It’s a change for the better. And that’s why car dealerships, quick lubes, other do-it-for-me installers, consumers and government or commercial fleets rely on EcoPower to protect engines and protect the environment.

Safety-Kleen is a founding partner of NASCAR Green; an initiative focused on making NASCAR the greenest sport. Safety-Kleen collects all used fluids from the tracks during race weekends - and from most team facilities year round - and then recycles or responsibly disposes of those fluids.  The used motor oil collected from all of these sources, including RFR’s race cars, will find its way back into EcoPower.  This “closed-loop” philosophy is by far the most environmentally responsible approach to handling used oil.
